Other Opportunities for a Kentucky Elk Permit

If you aren't selected in the random Kentucky Elk Hunt Drawing, there are still some limited opportunities to get permits for the upcoming season. The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission awards up to 10 special commission permits for elk each year to qualifying non-profit wildlife conservation groups; the Commission (board) reviews completed applications (permit application) submitted by the May 1 annual deadline, then votes on recipient organizations based largely on their proposed uses of funds for projects in Kentucky. Non-profits who are awarded these permits can sell the permits outright, raffle, or auction them, but all proceeds must be used for the proposed conservation-related projects in Kentucky. A hunter with one of these permits can hunt during any elk season segment of the applicable year, anywhere within the elk unit they are assigned to. However, the permits are not transferable once hunters receive them.

Enter to win a 2026 Bull Elk Tag with the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation

The Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. It was created in 1995 shortly after the opening of the Dr. James C. Salato Wildlife Education Center. Through charitable donations by individuals and corporate sponsors, the Foundation works with the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources to support the efforts of the Salato Wildlife Education Center, conservation education programs for Kentucky youth, and the acquisition of land and wetlands for wildlife habitat. The Foundation and its Board of Directors actively seek the sponsorship of major corporations.

The Foundation’s 2026 Bull Elk Tag Drawing benefits the three Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources' Conservation Camps: Camp Currie, Camp Wallace, and Camp Webb. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation uses the funds collected through the Bull Elk Tag Drawing for capital construction projects for the camps and to fund scholarships for Kentucky children to attend camp.

The lucky winner will receive a 2026 Special Commission Bull Elk Tag, granting access to an exclusive hunt on private land owned by the University of Kentucky — with lodging included.
