Spring turkey and spring squirrel hunting seasons are open under statewide regulations on most wildlife management areas (WMAs) owned, leased or managed by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. However, special regulations are in effect on Barren River Lake WMA, Higginson-Henry WMA, Livingston County WMA, Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area, Peabody WMA, Pioneer Weapons WMA, Robinson Forest WMA and West Kentucky WMA. Directions & Description

15 miles southeast of Harlan on Stone Mountain Road. (off US 421). No roads within area. Mountainous, extremely steep terrain with long, deep hollows, heavily forested, primarily in hardwoods. No camping. Fishing in is allowed at the lake known both as Cranks Creek Lake and Herb Smith Lake; rental boats available at Stone Mountain boat dock. Trout are stocked in Cranks Creek Lake, refer to the fishing guide for regulations. Picnicking at adjoining Stone Mountain, a scenic gorge area.
