Join the Clark County Cooperative Extension Office and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources for an afternoon of learning how to squirrel hunt and go out on a squirrel hunt with certified mentors. The workshop will consist of covering the basics for squirrel hunting, practicing shooting shotguns, a practical exercise to practice carrying firearms in the field and learning how to clean and cook squirrels. We will serve lunch when you arrive. The workshop and mentored hunt will both be hosted at Clay Wildlife Management Area. New squirrel hunters will have the opportunity to go on a squirrel hunt with certified mentors. After the hunt, mentors will help new hunters process the squirrels they harvested.
There is a shuttle van being offered from the Clark County Extension Office (1400 Fortune Dr, Winchester, KY 40391) to Clay WMA if you would like to ride with others participating in the workshop. Please contact the event coordinator prior to the event if you plan to ride in the van.
If you would like to practice with your personal firearm, please bring it and the correct ammunition for it. If you have questions about what ammo is best, you can contact the program coordinator. If you do not own a firearm there will be one loaned to you.
To participate in this program you must have/purchase a 2023 Kentucky Annual Hunting License - https://app.fw.ky.gov/Solar/
Each participant must also have their Hunter Education Safety Certification (orange card) prior to the event.
