Hunter Education

Our Hunter Education classes have been moved and can be viewed online at Education Course Events.

Hook and Cook - Burlington - Boone County

This course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.

The field portion includes, but is not limited to: location selection, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fileting fish, food preparation and cooking. Fish sampling is provided!

3-D ACRHERY AT JONES-KEENEY WMA ARCHERY RANGE HOSTED BY CALDWELL - Caldwell County

30 target 3-D archery course located in the woods and hills of the Jones-Keeney WMA. Hosted by the Caldwell County Sportsman Club. Our targets range from a small armadillo to a buffalo. Your get a unique experience unlike any other, we have moving targets and at times a steel change target. We welcome all ages and skill levels. We use ASA scoring with club rules. We hope to see you sometime out there. We also shoot 3-D year around out side. Also, we are only club that shoot 3-D after 2pm.

Lloyd Area Skeet Club – Skeet on Wednesday in - Grant County

Skeet is best shot with an open choke - Improved Cylinder or Skeet - and #9 or #8 shot. The Club is sometimes open on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday for a few hours between 12 Noon and 8:00pm, for Kentucky Skeet Shooting Association (KSSA) practice sessions and alternate bad weather days. Old Geezers Trap Shoot - Grant County

Six of the Northern Kentucky's Trap Shooting Clubs came together to provide yet another Trap Shooting, Gun Loving, Socializing Opportunity that happens once a month on the 2nd Wednesday...Name says old Geezers, but young geezers and geezerettes are welcome, too. Each month a different club host the event. The host club provides Trap @ $5 per round and Free Lunch! The event starts at 11:00am and runs until around 2:00pm... June & December events are sponsored by the Northern KY Straight Shooters Association.

Field to Fork: Squirrel Mentor Hunt - Georgetown, KY - Scott County

Participants will learn about biology, safety, processing and more. Participants will be accompanied by mentors in the field for an evening squirrel hunt. All harvested squirrels will be processed by participants and packaged for transportation. 

NOTICE: To be applicable for this hunt participants must meet the following requirements:

-Hunter Education Certified

-Purchased 2026 KY Hunting License

-Has not harvested a squirrel within the past 3 years

 

We will be having range time prior to the hunting portion to fulfill the range portion of hunter education. Please complete the online portion of hunter education prior to the class if you are not certified.
