Hook and Cook
This course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced or a first-time angler, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing. This event is primarily for women 16 years of age and older.
3/9/24 9am KDFWR classroom
The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, improving water quality, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.
The field portion will be on 3/9 in the afternoon, it will include but is not limited to: location selection, target areas, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish for trout, fileting fish, food preparation and cooking, and food sampling. A valid KY fishing license is required on the day of the class. If you intend to keep trout you will need to purchase a $10 Trout Permit.
