Our Hunter Education classes have been moved and can be viewed online at Education Course Events.

Hook and Cook - Danville - Boyle County

This course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

Day 1 July 2nd, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Boyle County Cooperative Extension Office 

This portion includes, but is not limited to: Proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques, fileting fish, food preparation, cooking, and food sampling.

Day 2 July 9th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Boyle County Public Library  

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations,

Day 3 July 16th, 5:30pm-8:30pm Millennium Park 

This will be the fishing portion of the class. KDFWR will provide all the equipment and bait so participants can test out the newly acquired fishing skills.

Fly Fishing 101 - Fort Campbell - Christian County

Join us and learn the basics of fly-fishing including rod and reel setups, casting, fly types, basic gear, and knot tying. Attendees will have the opportunity to join a mentored fly-fishing trip on the Little West Fork. This class is free to attend, but you must have a valid Kentucky fishing license and a Ft Campbell permit. All equipment is provided. This class is offered in partnership with Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and Fort Campbell. 

Participants will need to pack your own lunch, we will take a break allowing you to travel to get lunch if needed.

Hook and Cook - Elizabethtown - Hardin County

This course will teach you the basics of catching, cleaning and cooking fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

Day 1 July 15th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Hardin County Cooperative Extension Office 

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, hook removal, fishing safety and when to fish.  

Day 2 July 22nd, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Hardin County Cooperative Extension Office 

The second portion includes, but is not limited to: how to filet fish, food preparation and cooking, proper food storage, and food sampling.

Day 3 July 29th, 5:30pm-8:30pm  

This will be the fishing portion of the class. KDFWR will provide all the equipment and bait so participants can test out the newly aquired fising skills.

Day 1 July 25th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Scott County Extension Office

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.

Day 2 July 26th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Lusby Lake ( Scott County )

The field portion includes, but is not limited to: location selection, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fileting fish, food preparation and cooking. Fish sampling is provided!
