Turkey: Open under statewide regulations during the spring season.

Squirrel: Open from the third Saturday in May through the third Friday in June; and from the third Saturday in August through Oct. 14.

Coyote: Open under statewide regulations.

Groundhog: Open under statewide regulations.

Fall Hunting dates/regulations are currently pending. 

The Stewart Island Unit is closed to public access Oct. 15 – March 15, except during early muzzleloader deer season.

The portion of the Ohio River from Smithland Lock and Dam upstream to the powerline crossing at river mile 911.5 is closed to hunting.

Directions & Description

The refuge is comprised of 381 acres in two islands, in Kentucky in Lewis County, Manchester Islands 1 and 2 east of Maysville.

Access on the Kentucky side by boat via the boat ramps at Maysville and Vanceburg. On the Ohio side access at Brush Creek Campground off of HWY 52, 3.5 miles west of Rome, Ohio.
