Fishing 101 - Irvine - Estill County

This course will teach you the basics of catching fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

Day 1 June 24th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm, Estill County Public Library

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, basic equipment, licensing/regulations, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection and where to fish.

Day 2 June 28th, 4:00pm - 6:00pm Camp Burnamwood

The field portion of the class includes fishing at Camp Burnamwood, all equipment and bait will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own fishing equipment.

Hook and Cook - Lexington - Fayette County

This course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

Day 1 June 3rd, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Fayette County Cooperative Extension Office 

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, improving water quality, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.

Day 2 June 10th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Fayette County Cooperative Extension Office 

The field portion includes, but is not limited to: location selection, target areas, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fileting fish, food preparation and cooking, and food sampling.

Day 3 June 17th, 5:30pm-8:30pm Jacobson Park 

This will be the fishing portion of the class. KDFWR will provide all the equipment and bait so participants can test out the newly aquired fising skills.

Grant County 4-H Shooting Sports Club Meeting - Grant County

This event is open to club members, ages 9 to 18, that have passed necessary safety training. Archery of all types held from 6 PM to 8 PM on the second and fourth MONDAY of each month. .22 Riflery/Trap held from 6 PM to 8 PM on the second and fourth FRIDAY of each month. Meetings runs from March until November. To sign up to participate this is club, please call the Grant County Extension Office at (859) 824-3355 or visit them at 1212 N. Main St. Ste F Williamstown, KY 41097. A club enrollment form must be filled out for each participating youth. All youth enrolled must complete 6 hours of safety training classes providing by Grant County 4-H before participating in club.

NKSSA Ladies Day at the Range - Grant County

Special event for Ladies only. We start with lunch at 1 pm and spend the rest of the day shooting rifle, pistol, shotgun and muzzleloaders. Hook and Cook Carp - Mayfield - Graves County

This is an informational class about invasive carp in Kentucky Waterways. We will cover topics such as what these fish are, where they came from, how many we currently have, what we are doing to remove them and how to clean them. Graves County Extension staff will assist in showing participants how easy it is to prepare a tasty carp dish. Participants will get the opportunity to clean a fish and taste the sample recipes.

2024 Annie Oakley Day-Beyond Becoming an Outdoors Woman - Jefferson County

This event will be hosted by Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and Fern Creek Sportsmen's Club. This will be an un-intimidating and informative introduction to fishing, archery, basic rifles (.22 caliber), and shotguns! This event is design for ladies to gain confidence with firearms in a safe environment surrounded by other like-minded individuals! This event is open to all women 18 years and older. Participants who are 16 or 17 years of age can attend register for the event, but they must attend and register with a female attendee who is at least 18 years and older. This event is free to attend, but all participants must have a valid Kentucky fishing license at the day of the event. Fly Fishing 101 - Louisville - Jefferson County

Join us and learn the basics of fly-fishing including rod and reel setups, casting, fly types, basic gear, and knot tying. Attendees will have the opportunity to join a mentored fly-fishing trip. This class is free to attend, but you must have a valid Kentucky fishing license. All equipment is provided. This class is offered in partnership with Derby City Fly Fishers and The Parklands of Floyds Fork.

Invasive Carp Processing Demos at BHA Small Game Boot Camp - McCracken County

Join the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources at the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Small Game Boot Camp. KDFWR will be demonstrating how to process invasive carp. At 12:30 PM you can watch a program on how to catch or where to purchase carp, as well as how to fillet and cook it. You will have multiple options to attend processing demonstrations: 10:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM (all times are central) located at the KDFWR booth. Come watch up close, speak with a biologist, and sample invasive carp recipes. You will also find information about upcoming learn to hunt and fish programs across the state. The first 10 registrants to attend each demonstration timeslot will receive a FREE Hook and Cook Cutting Board. There are three opportunities to catch this demonstration throughout the day. Registrants are welcome to attend all demonstrations but will only receive one Hook and Cook cutting board for the day.
