Welcome to our beginner kayak fishing course! This course will teach you how to safely and effectively fish from a kayak. This course is designed for kayakers or anglers wanting to combine the two skills or someone new to both.
Day 1 (May 11th, 6:00pm- 8:30pm, KDFWR classroom)
This portion covers basic concepts including, but not limited to: fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation,casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, and when to fish (time of day/time of year), licensing and regulations.
Day 2 (May 18th, 6:00pm- 830pm, KDFWR classroom)
The practical portion includes: loading and unloading a kayak trailer, propelling and steering a kayak, weight distribution, how to secure gear, boat positioning for fishing and navigation of flowing water systems, access points, location selection and types of boats.
Day 3 (May 20th 9:00am-1:00 pm, Canoe Ky shop)
This portion of the class will be a float fishing trip guided by Canoe Kentucky. It will be a four hour paddle down the elkhorn creek with plenty of opportunities to practice the skills learned in the two previous portions of this class. There will be a fee associated with this portion of the class for kayak rental and guide.
