Hunter Education

Our Hunter Education classes have been moved and can be viewed online at register-ed.com.

Hook and Cook - Boone County - Boone County

This course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.

The field portion includes, but is not limited to: location selection, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fileting fish, food preparation and cooking. Fish sampling is provided!

Salato - Backyard Bass - Franklin County

Join us for a fun casting game to help kids learn fish identification skills. Fish ID booklets and tackle kits will be available, while supplies last. This activity is being held in advance of free fishing weekend. Annually during the first full weekend in June, you can try your hand at fishing in Kentucky without a license. 2023 Annie Oakley Day-Beyond Becoming an Outdoors Woman - Jefferson County

This event will be hosted by Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Fern Creek Sportsmen's Club and Safari Club International. This will be an un-intimidating and informative introduction to fishing, archery, basic rifles (.22 caliber), and shotguns! This event is design for ladies to gain confidence with firearms in a safe environment surrounded by other like-minded individuals! This event is open to all women 18 years and older. Participants who are 16 or17 years of age can attend register for the event, but they must attend and register with a female attendee who is at least 18 years and older. This event is free to attend, but all participants must have a valid Kentucky fishing license at the day of the event. Kids fishing and family fun day - Knott County

We will be hosting our annual kids fishing and family fun day. Kids will be having a fishing competition for prizes, we will be having games for kids and adults. Free food and drinks. This event is free for everyone. And you don’t have to be a member to attend. Everyone is welcome. Registration starts at 9am.

Hook and Cook - Richmond - Madison County

This course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

Day 1 June 6th, 6:00pm-8:30pm, Richmond Teen Center  

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.

Day 2 June 13th, 6:00pm-8:30pm, Lake Reba

The field portion includes, but is not limited to: location selection, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fileting fish, food preparation and cooking. Fish sampling is provided!
