Regulations
UPDATE: The Taylorsville Lake WMA prescribed burn will occur on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The project location will remain closed for public access on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Taylorsville Lake WMA Prescribed Burn between Oct. 28 and 31
A portion of Taylorsville Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Spencer County is slated for a prescribed burn between Oct. 28 and 31 to facilitate a prescribed fire project as part of ongoing hardwood forest improvements on the property.
Burns are planned on a 1,600-acre section of the Briar Ridge unit of the WMA south of KY 3228 on the first of the two-day closure. The WMA will not be accessible via KY 3228 if traveling west from KY 248 during this time. The shooting range will be closed on the day of the burn project. Signs will be posted. The prescribed fire areas will be monitored until all fire, embers and smoke are extinguished before reopening to the public. Other public access to Taylorsville Lake and the remainder of the 9,417-acre WMA should not be affected.

Deer Season Restrictions:
- Muzzleloader: Open for December Muzzleloader Season Only.
- Modern Gun: Quota Hunt Only.
Rabbit and Quail: Open November 1 - December 31, 2024.
Shooting Range: A person shall not target practice, sight in a firearm, or discharge a firearm in any area except the shooting range. Shooting multiple projectile shells is not permitted on Tube Ranges. Club Ranges are off-limits unless authorized by an approved event with a club range safety officer. A person shall not discharge a firearm within 100 yards of a residence or occupied building, whether or not the building is on the WMA.
Prohibited Activities
- Damage a tree or shrub (No installation of targets on trees or shrubs)
- Dump trash or litter (Clean up targets and spent shells)
- Deface or destroy a signs
- Pose a risk to persons or property (Shooters responsible for ensuring adequate backstop)
- Engage in an activity which could unreasonably interfere with other uses or users of the area

Area: Area bounded by Highway 2239 and the tailwater access road (portion designated as Special Management Unit "A" on the WMA Map).
Terrain: Rolling to level.
