NKSSA Ladies Day - Grant County

Free Day at the range for ladies only sponsored by the Northern KY Straight Shooters Association. Join us at 1 p.m. for lunch and spend the day shooting at the range: Rifles, pistols, muzzleloaders, shotguns* (*Up to 50 shotgun shells will be provided for each lady.) Hook and Cook - Elizabethtown - Hardin County

This course will teach you the basics of catching, cleaning and cooking fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

July 18th, 9:00am-5:00pm, Hardin County Cooperative Extension Office

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, hook removal, fishing safety, where to fish, how to filet fish, food preparation and cooking, proper food storage, and food sampling.

The afternoon will be the fishing portion of the class. KDFWR will provide all the equipment and bait so participants can test out the newly acquired fishing skills. This will be held at Freeman Park.

Fly Fishing 101 - Louisville - Jefferson County

Join us and learn the basics of fly-fishing including rod and reel setups, casting, fly types, basic gear, and knot tying. Attendees will have the opportunity to join a mentored fly-fishing trip. This class is free to attend, but you must have a valid Kentucky fishing license. All equipment is provided. This class is offered in partnership with Derby City Fly Fishers and The Parklands of Floyds Fork.

Hook and Cook - Louisville - Jefferson County

Join the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and learn the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or first-time fisherman, this workshop will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started. 

Each participant must have adult supervision, anyone 16 years of age or older must have a valid Kentucky fishing license. All equipment is provided. This class is offered in partnership with Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife and Waverly Lake.

Trout Fishing Webinar and Fishing Trip - Russell County

Join the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources for a webinar on Trout Fishing! This program will take place via webinar on Wednesday, May 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM ET. Topics covered will include licensing, regulations, equipment, where to fish for trout, basic trout fishing strategies, and more. Participants are invited to attend a follow up fishing trip on either Wednesday, June 10th or Wednesday, June 17th at Hatchery Creek. Hatchery Creek is located at the Wolf Creek Dam in Jamestown, KY. All fishing equipment including bait will be provided by KDFWR.

A link to the webinar program will be sent out closer to the date of the program.

Following the webinar a registration will be sent out to all webinar participants for the fishing trip dates. A maximum of 15 spots will be available for each mentor fishing trip. 

A FISHING LICENSE AND TROUT PERMIT ARE REQUIRED TO FISH IN HATCHERY CREEK.

Hook and Cook - Georgetown - Scott County

This course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

Day 1 May 19th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Scott County Extension Office

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.

Day 2 May 20th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Lusby Lake ( Scott County )

The field portion includes, but is not limited to: location selection, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fileting fish, food preparation and cooking. Fish sampling is provided!
