This course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.
Day 1 June 3rd, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Fayette County Cooperative Extension Office
The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, improving water quality, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.
Day 2 June 10th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Fayette County Cooperative Extension Office
The field portion includes, but is not limited to: location selection, target areas, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fileting fish, food preparation and cooking, and food sampling.
Day 3 June 17th, 5:30pm-8:30pm Jacobson Park
This will be the fishing portion of the class. KDFWR will provide all the equipment and bait so participants can test out the newly aquired fising skills.
