Hook and Cook - Elizabethtown - Hardin County

This course will teach you the basics of catching, cleaning and cooking fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing.

July 18th, 9:00am-5:00pm, Hardin County Cooperative Extension Office

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, hook removal, fishing safety, where to fish, how to filet fish, food preparation and cooking, proper food storage, and food sampling.

The afternoon will be the fishing portion of the class. KDFWR will provide all the equipment and bait so participants can test out the newly acquired fishing skills. This will be held at Freeman Park.

Field to Fork: Wild Game Workshop - Henderson County

Join KDFWR and the Henderson County Extension Office to learn the basics of processing and cooking your own wild game. Topics covererd but not limited to: Small Game Processing, Biology, Meat Grinding, Packaging, and cooking. Enjoy processing demonstrations and free wild game samples while supplies last.

Audubon Wild - Henderson County

Experience Kentucky's birdlife and natural beauty through guided tours, museum exhibits, and engaging wildlife presentations. Enjoy wildlife viewing tours at Sloughs Wildlife Management Area, the museum and nature center at John James Audubon State Park, and an eagle conservation and live bird of prey program. Trap to Table: Introduction to Regulated Trapping - Nelson County

Join KDFWR and the Nelson County Extension Office for an introduction to regulated trapping. Topics covered but not limited to are regulations, equipment, trap setting, processing, and cooking. Participants will also get to sample wild game.

Day 1 May 19th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Scott County Extension Office

The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, biology, fish habitat, equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, proper selection and use of cooking tools, cooking safety, fish fileting techniques, recipes, proper food handling and storage techniques.

Day 2 May 20th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Lusby Lake ( Scott County )

The field portion includes, but is not limited to: location selection, casting techniques, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection, how to bait a hook, hook removal, safety, when to fish (time of day/time of year), fileting fish, food preparation and cooking. Fish sampling is provided!
