West Sixth Farm: Fly Fishing & Casting Lessons (6 sessions)
11am to 6pm
Fly Fishing clinic with Bluegrass Trout Unlimited at West Sixth Farm! A fly fishing & casting clinic for the fly curious. There are six sessions available, including sessions for women only and one for children.
Your support and participation means a lot to us and proceeds from clinics will go towards an Embrace A Stream education and conservation project at West Hickman Creek in Lexington, KY.
Participants will receive instruction on how to cast a fly rod and learn the basics of fly-fishing equipment and simple techniques for getting on the water. You'll also get to meet others who are interested in the growing sport of fly fishing and those who support clean rivers and creeks in Kentucky and beyond. You'll also receive a BGTU sticker and color-changing cup and be eligible for door prizes.
The goal is to provide a basic understanding of the mechanics of casting and enough knowledge of fly-fishing gear that anglers will feel confident in becoming an independent angler. All participants must bring protective eye wear (sunglasses) and a hat.
BGTU is a non-profit conservation organization committed to protecting cold water ecosystems. Fly fishing for trout and other species is an important part of the organization, but the will and desire to conserve and protect streams, rivers and lakes is the primary mission of Trout Unlimited. BGTU holds monthly fly-tying events and encourages anyone interested in conservation or fly fishing to attend.
The event is offered to the public, but participants are encouraged to visit https://www.tu.org/ and consider becoming a TU member.
Bluegrass Trout Unlimited will supply all of the rods and reels. Participants are welcomed to bring their own rod, but all participants must bring sunglasses/protective eyewear and a hat is recommended.
